PRP Skin & Hair Rejuvenation

Integrative MedAesthetics – Skin & Hair Rejuvenation

Doctor-led regenerative medicine within an integrative aesthetic framework

At our Integrative MedAesthetics clinic, Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy is offered as a medical procedure that sits at the intersection of skin health, hair biology, and overall physiological wellbeing.

PRP involves collecting a small sample of your own blood, processing it to concentrate platelets, and administering the platelet-rich component to targeted areas of the skin or scalp. Treatment is provided only after comprehensive medical consultation and individualised assessment.

PRP procedures are performed by appropriately trained medical professionals in a regulated clinical environment.

PRP for Skin Rejuvenation

PRP for skin may be considered as part of a personalised medical approach to skin health. It is commonly discussed in the context of overall skin quality rather than cosmetic enhancement.

PRP for skin may be considered for:

  • Support of skin texture and tone

  • Management of early signs of skin ageing

  • Adjunctive care within broader skin rejuvenation programs

No outcomes are guaranteed and individual responses vary.

PRP for Hair & Scalp Support

PRP for hair and scalp health may be discussed with patients experiencing hair thinning or changes in hair density. It is used as a supportive, adjunctive medical procedure rather than a standalone cure.

PRP for hair may be considered for:

  • Supportive management of hair thinning

  • Scalp health optimisation

  • Adjunctive care alongside other medically indicated treatments

PRP does not guarantee hair regrowth or prevention of further hair loss.

PRP overview

PRP-platelet- rich plasma

  • Our blood consists of 4 main components, amongst others:

    • Plasma

    • Red blood cells

    • White blood cells

    • Platelets.

  • They each have specific functions that they serve.

  • PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) as the name suggests, is a combination of the blood components of plasma and platelets mostly.

What is PRP?

  • PRP is an autologous (from own self) preparation of platelets which is obtained from individual’s whole blood after centrifugation to remove the red blood cells.

  • It is also enriched by full complement of clotting factors and a range of growth factors (GF), chemokines, cytokines and other plasma proteins, which all aid in wound healing normally.

  • Essentially, blood is collected from the patient subject and then put through centrifugation process to separate the plasma and platelets from the red cells.

This platelet-rich plasma is then used for the treatment.

How does PRP work?

The theory of PRP therapy emerges from the body’s natural wound healing processes, as the first response to tissue injury is to deliver platelets to the injured area. Platelets, GFs and other plasma proteins promote healing and attract stem cells to the site of the injury.

Studies have shown that adult mesenchymal stem cells, osteoblasts, fibroblasts, endothelial cells and epidermal cells express the cell membrane receptors that bind to the GFs present in PRP.

This leads to activation of the above cells and enhancing tissue regeneration and healing process as well as removing necrotic (dead) tissues.

When PRP is injected, higher concentrations of platelets and GFs are released into the target area, promoting new cell formation.

Platelet concentration in PRP has a crucial role as it is directly related to the proliferation of mesenchymal stem cells and fibroblasts as well as production of type I collagen, which all have an important role in tissue remodelling

Hair Regrowth

hair regrowth may be due to PRP’s local effect on:

  • Vascularization → Increasing local blood supply.

  • Enhancing hair follicle viability → Reducing chances of hair loss.

  • Prolongation of the anagen (active growth) phase of the hair follicle → Leads to less hair loss and longer hair.

Also, it is becoming a popular complement to hair transplants, as PRP therapy can help accelerate the growth of transplanted hair follicles through the described mechanisms.

PRP and Skin Rejuvenation

  • As we age, the skin function and laxity declines.

  • This is a gradual process which is due to intrinsic aging (natural decrease in collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid synthesis in skin) and extrinsic aging (damage caused by environmental factors such as UV radiation, smoking, etc.) which results in wrinkle formation over the time.

  • PRP induces production of collagen and other matrix components through its natural healing components, thus improving the overall quality of the skin.

Along with PRP’s function in promoting tissue remodelling in the aging skin, it can be used in conjunction with other cosmetic treatments to improve the overall aesthetic outcome.

What can PRP help with?

  • Enhance skin texture, tone, and hydration

  • Reduce fine lines and early wrinkles

  • Support natural hair growth thus helping hair thinning and scalp rejuvenation

  • Skin rejuvenation

  • Wound healing

  • Stretch marks

Improvement of scars, such as:

  • Acne scars

  • Burn scars

  • Surgical scars.

Treatment Process

  • Medical consultation and assessment A comprehensive consultation is required to determine suitability, discuss alternatives, and obtain informed consent.

  • Blood collection and processing A small blood sample is collected and processed using a sterile centrifugation system.

  • Administration PRP is administered using clinically appropriate techniques, based on the treatment area and medical indication.

  • Follow‑up and review Follow‑up appointments may be recommended depending on the individual treatment plan.

Safety and Medical Considerations

PRP is generally considered a low‑risk procedure when performed appropriately; however, as with all medical treatments, risks and limitations exist.

Possible risks may include (but are not limited to):

  • Temporary discomfort, redness, swelling or bruising at the treatment site

  • Infection (rare)

  • No clinical response

All risks, benefits, and alternative options will be discussed during your consultation.

Suitability

PRP may not be appropriate for everyone. Treatment suitability depends on:

  • Medical history

  • Medications

  • Skin or scalp condition

  • Individual expectations

A medical assessment is mandatory prior to treatment.

PRP is generally suitable for:

  • Individuals seeking a natural skin rejuvenation option

  • Those wanting to improve tone, texture, or early signs of ageing

  • Clients preferring treatments with no synthetic ingredients

Not recommended for:

  • Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding

  • Individuals with bleeding disorders or certain medical conditions

  • Individuals who have active skin infections or inflammatory conditions at the treatment site

Our Integrative MedAesthetics Approach

At our clinic, PRP is delivered within an integrative MedAesthetics framework, recognising that skin quality and hair health are influenced by multiple internal and external factors.

Rather than viewing PRP as a standalone aesthetic procedure, we consider it as one component within a broader medical strategy that may include:

  • Comprehensive medical history and lifestyle assessment

  • Evaluation of skin biology, scalp health, and tissue quality

  • Consideration of systemic factors such as inflammation, stress, nutrition, and hormonal balance

  • Evidence-informed aesthetic and regenerative procedures where clinically appropriate

This integrative approach allows treatment plans to be individualised, medically guided, and aligned with realistic expectations. Not all patients will be suitable for PRP, and alternative or adjunctive options may be discussed during consultation.
