SkinPen Microneedling

Performed by: Dr Georgeta Deac  General Practitioner – AHPRA-registered  MED0001852789

SkinPen is a TGA-listed, medical-grade microneedling device with single-use sterile cartridges, controlled needle depth, and features designed to support safe and consistent treatment. Individual results vary, and device choice is only one part of determining whether microneedling is appropriate for you.

Microneedling is a clinical skin treatment that uses fine, sterile needles to create controlled micro-channels in the skin. This activates the body’s natural healing response and supports collagen and elastin production. Suitability varies for each person and is assessed during a consultation.

What Microneedling Can Help With

  • Skin rejuvenation

  • Reducing fine lines/wrinkles

  • Reducing scars (such as acne scars, post-surgical scars & hypertrophic scars)

  • Fading stretch marks

  • Fading pigmented lesions

  • Tightening skin

  • Improving skin laxity/tone/texture/firmness

  • Enlarged pores

  • Dull or ageing skin

Results differ between individuals. Multiple sessions may be recommended depending on your goals and skin condition.

How does it work?

By puncturing the skin’s surface, the body’s natural wound healing processes are stimulated, resulting in increased production of collagen and elastin.
Collagen and elastin are structural proteins found in our skin that give it the plumpness and structure, giving it a more youthful appearance.
The use of microneedling thus slows down the skin ageing process. Microneedling works on the basis of controlled micro-trauma. Once the skin’s upper epidermal layer is broken, skin cell release growth factors & cytokines. These molecules can stimulate cells to produce collagen, elastin & hyaluronic acid. Over a period of months, skin is rejuvenated. The result is an improvement in skin quality.

Why Choose Doctor-Led Microneedling

Choosing a doctor-led microneedling treatment provides an added level of clinical oversight, safety, and decision-making support. Microneedling is a medical procedure and may not be suitable for everyone; having a doctor assess and perform the treatment helps ensure it is delivered appropriately and safely.

1. Comprehensive Medical Assessment
A doctor can review your medical history, medications, and any skin conditions to determine whether microneedling is suitable for you. Some health conditions and topical treatments may increase the risk of complications, and medical assessment helps identify these in advance.

2. Individualised Treatment Planning
A doctor can recommend treatment depth, timing, and frequency based on your skin type, goals, and clinical needs. This ensures microneedling is tailored, appropriate, and consistent with evidence-informed practice.

3. Management of Complex Skin Conditions
Certain skin concerns — such as pigmentation disorders, scarring, or inflammatory conditions — require careful evaluation. A doctor can identify when microneedling is appropriate and when alternative treatments may be more suitable.

4. Higher-Level Training and Clinical Oversight
Doctors are trained to understand skin biology, wound healing, contraindications, infection control, and complication management. This supports safer decision-making before, during, and after treatment.

5. Safe Technique and Clinical Hygiene
Doctor-led procedures follow strict medical standards for infection control, device handling, and treatment depth, reducing the risk of adverse events.

6. Monitoring and Management of Side Effects
If side effects occur — such as prolonged redness, swelling, pigment changes, or signs of infection — a doctor is qualified to diagnose, manage, and treat complications promptly.

7. Access to Alternative or Adjunct Treatments
Not all concerns are best treated with microneedling alone. A doctor can recommend alternative or additional options when appropriate, ensuring you receive the most suitable treatment plan rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.

8. Clear,  Balanced Information and Informed Consent
A doctor is trained to provide balanced information about benefits, risks, limitations, and expected outcomes. This supports fully informed decision-making and appropriate expectations.
